Jess Dickinson served on the Mississippi Supreme Court for 14 years before his current appointment as Commissioner of Child Protection Services.  For 12 years, Jess has taught law at Mississippi College Law School.

Jess began performing on the hammered dulcimer at the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, Arkansas in the 1980s, where he was the featured hammered dulcimer player on the annual Christmas show for several years.  Jess is the 2013 Southern Regional Hammered Dulcimer Champion.  He has performed with symphony orchestras and on stages across the country, both as soloist, and with his bluegrass band, Bluegrass Appeal.

For the past 25 years, Jess has instructed hammered dulcimer at numerous festivals and workshops including ODPC Funfest, Ozark Folk Center Dulcimer Jamboree, Lagniappe Dulcimer Festival, Buckeye Dulcimer Festival and many others.  He is the author of Hammered Dulcimer Improv, and The Essential Hammered Dulcimer Instruction Manual which is a good compliment to these videos.  More videos as well as information, instruments and accessories are available on his website, http://www.dickinsondulcimer.com

Brett Ridgeway

Brett Ridgeway is a professional musician and one of the friendliest and most well liked teachers in the hammered dulcimer world.  He also teaches mountain dulcimer, clawhammer banjo, bluegrass banjo, mandolin, and guitar as well as several unique ALL INSTRUMENT workshops.  Bret's philosophy is that "anyone can make music, regardless of age, musical ability or knowledge!"  His philosophy shows in the response to his workshops.  He had the largest classes at both the 2016 and 2017 Dulcimer Funfest festivals at Evart, Michigan.  Brett is available for festivals, concerts, private lessons, etc.  check out his web site. https://www.brettridgewaymusic.com

Brett has literally hundreds of great teaching videos, all free.  We have embedded what we believe are the most pertinent because of space considerations.  These are mostly theory, basics, and how to on the hammered dulcimer plus a couple standard tunes for you to check out.  He has another playlist on Youtube that has 50+ great teaching videos of individual tunes, here is the link to that:
