Jess Dickinson served on the Mississippi Supreme Court for 14 years before his current appointment as Commissioner of Child Protection Services. For 12 years, Jess has taught law at Mississippi College Law School.
Jess began performing on the hammered dulcimer at the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, Arkansas in the 1980s, where he was the featured hammered dulcimer player on the annual Christmas show for several years. Jess is the 2013 Southern Regional Hammered Dulcimer Champion. He has performed with symphony orchestras and on stages across the country, both as a soloist, and with his bluegrass band, Bluegrass Appeal.
For the past 25 years, Jess has instructed hammered dulcimer at numerous festivals and workshops including ODPC Funfest, Ozark Folk Center Dulcimer Jamboree, Lagniappe Dulcimer Festival, Buckeye Dulcimer Festival and many others. He is the author of Hammered Dulcimer Improv, and The Essential Hammered Dulcimer Instruction Manual which is a good complement to these videos.
